I would get a mid-size WAGON with 4 bags.
Think the VW Passat---car sizes are similar by category and your request will be for a category of models.

The classic caveat, as it's happened to me.

What size suitcases?
Are there 4 adults or a mixture?
If it's 4 adults, will they all swear to suitcases of 22" or smaller?

A few years back, I went on a trip to Argentina with my wife, sister and her husband. They swore only 1 suitcase each. That's what thay brought, plus 2 more suitcases and a very large backpack. Could not fit in the car I rented.

As for car sizes, pick a major brand rental car company. I use Hertz, because their car details are on the screen.

I went to the hertz austria site and pulled up hertz.

http://www.hertz.at/rentacar/reservation/vehicles

Check it out.

Hi G,

It is better to get a van that is too large than a car that is too small.

When hiring a car the hire company does not always gives you the exact model shown on the website.
However The likes of Jaguar, Land Rover, VW, Audi, BMW, Kia (Korean), Mini and some other makes are sold in the US. If you are from Australia or NZ then you will also find (in addition the the above) the likes of Skoda, Peugeot etc etc.
Japanese brands are world wide.
Or look them up on the likes of Wiki for some details.
A "van " or a Großraumlimousine in German, maybe too large for some mountainous roads.
