Rental car pickup in Rome

We are traveling to Rome the last of September and need advice on where to pick up a rental car. We will stay in Rome for a few days and then would like to pick up a car (without driving in Rome) to visit the Hill towns of Italy. Where do you suggest we pick up this car? Thanks, Lynda

One option is the airport -- there is a surcharge but see what it is and consider if it isn't well worth the convenience. FCO is VERY EASY to get in and out of to the Autostrata. Another is to take a train to Orvieto or Chiusi and pickup and return there (but the airport surcharge may be less than the train fares between there and Rome!). Arrange for your car before you get there or you will pay more.

You don't need to do it to Fiumicino. There's a rental car pick up at Via Lombardia, close to Via Veneto, and it's not difficult to drive out of Rome if you have a good map, guide book, and a navigator capable of guiding you. <BR> <BR>If you have a lot of luggage, getting to the airport with it using the metro can be a nightmare, and a taxi ride or shuttle are expensive. <BR> <BR>Here is a useful website: <BR> <BR>http://www.autostrade.it/pagine_1/english/e-homep.html <BR> <BR>And here in another one: <BR> <BR>http://mappe.virgilio.it/mappe/index.html <BR> <BR>The latter is an Italian site. FYI, citta is city, indirizzo is address, and num, number. It will show you the map of the region you're looking for. Beware, names of cities shall be written in Italian, as Roma per Rome, Firenze for Florence, and so on. <BR> <BR>I hope it helps, <BR> <BR>Surlok

We picked up our car at the Termini, the centrally located, main train station. It was very convenient and no problem at all. We took a taxi from our hotel which was nearby off the Via del Corso.

We also picked up our car at the Termini. Took a cab from our hotel to the station. The people at the Avis desk gave us excellent driving directions to exit the city. No problem.

A taxi dropped us off and we picked up a nine-passenger van at Europcar, Via Lombardia, 5 - - and had no problem. I did find that I was unable to park it at Autorimessi Trevi, and had to take it to the giant underground car park (Borghese). No problems there, nor getting a taxi to and from there. <BR> <BR>Best wishes, <BR> <BR>Rex <BR>
