Rental Car Models
 

Four average size adults will be driving around Spain in a rental a car. I don't know any of the model names used at the rental car sites. Could someone please make a few redomendations?

I believe they use Renaults - Megane, Vel Satis, are a couple of the models used. I'd try to get a VW or Peugot drophead coupé, I always think that it's much more fun to drive with the roof down, the sun shining, with hats on of course to protect from the sun.

If you look on Avis', Hertz's or any other major rental firm's web-site you will find the various models available. A large sedan will probably be most comfortable for four adults, although a convertible does have its appeal, and of course there's the matter of budget.

First check with the standard rental agencies, including the brokers: Auto Europe, Petrabax (who now rents cars through National-Atesa), CarJet, etc. Various models of cars are offered, but anything large enough to seat 4 adults, with luggage, will be larger than a compact if you want to be comfortable on either long, or short trips, and in Spain a lot of the tips can be at least two hours in duration.

You might want to consider renting two smaller cars, both for the fuel savings and the ability to navigate some of the narrow streets you?re bound to encounter wherever you go in Spain.

once you find the names of what is available you can look on the car web-sites and get stats for the actural size....beware that most trunks are very small for 4 adults....you may want to get a bigger car to insure enought room...

How much luggage are you going to have? On our last trip we rented a C class just to have enough room for 4 suitcases and we ended up needing a roof rack because the trunk was too small - never mind that the card ahndled like a sofa. So be sure to get specific info on trunk size and shape - or else take very tiny bags only.

We drove around in a Peugeot 307 a couple of years ago, but you have to travel light because of trunk space problems; otherwise the car was very comfortable for four.

Renault Megane or Laguna

What is the nearest model equivalent in size and trunk space to North American models?
