Rental car luggage capacity

I am trying to figure out the car that is going to handle our (4 adults) luggage in Tuscny and Sicily. The Fiat Croma 1.9 MJT is shown as capableof 5 adults, 2 large, and 1 small suitcase. Unfortunately it is difficult to find out what they mean by Large. We will each have a moderately sized roll on, About 24" X 17" X 8". Calls to the rental car agency, and I mean a lot of calls, got me nowhere. Does anyone have a clue for me?

That appears to be a hatchback. From the picture it looks like those suitcases would fit, but I can't tell you for sure. Somebody might have to straddle one of your smaller bags. We've always had a problem getting 4 adults + the bags in anything but a premium or better size car.

In my experience the trunk always holds less than you think. If it shows 2 suitcases - that would be 2 24" or 25". The smaller things they show are actually shoulder bags - not suitcases of any variety.

In our experience only the largest cars will hold the luggage for 4 - and only then if you're disciplined.

Swidoc,

Typically a rental car reservation is for a class of car. Not a specific make and model. You may be looking at a Fiat Croma but the rental car company wants the option of giving maybe, a Renault.

For this reason they would be reluctant to give you specifications on the size of the trunk.
