rental car in France- please help

I need some information regarding renting a vehicle for 3 nights in France. Any suggestions on a good website? I read that autoeurope is pretty good.
We will be flying into Paris (CDG) at approx. 1pm at Terminal 1 on a Saturday. After reading several postings- I've decided that it is best that we drive to Bayeux.
Is it more convenient to pick up the car at the airport? I know it might cost a little more but there are three of us. Or should we take the metro to a pick up location away from the airport?
And I want to drop off the vehicle closer to the hotel (Hotel Montpensier- near the Louvre and Orsay museums)- does anyone know a close drop off station? (someplace easy to get to)
Any information is much appreciated! Thank you all =)

Returning the car is really easy if you rent from Hertz, Their office is in the Carousel de Louvre. Its fairly easy to pickup at the airport. Certainly easier than adding an additional travel segment.

AutoEurope is my dealer of choice - has been for 15+ years.

I'd take the train to Bayeux and pick the car up there, drop it off there and train back to Paris. Saves you the hassle of driving into and out of Paris, which can be....a hassle.

As above. Do yourself a favour and don't drive in or out of Paris.

Now I am really torn. I was hoping that on the way back to drop off the car in Paris, we could stop by either Giverny or Versailles, or both. What do you think? Too ambitious?
Thank you for your quick replies!

I agree about Autoeurope; we use them consistently and are very happy with the service.

Agree with StCirq. Train to Bayeux and get the car there. Less cost, time and agrevation. You REALLY do not want to drive in central Paris. It took a liter of wine to get over that experiance.

Do you have enough time in Paris itself to get yourself out to Giverny by train for a visit? If so, do that.

If not, take the train from Paris to Vernon (to visit Giverny) and rent a car from there to go to Bayeux. Not sure there's a car rental place there but AutoEurope could make recommendations.

Another vote for Autoeurope and a nix for Hertz--we had a real nightmare with them in France and so have many others on Fodors.
