Rental Car in Eastern Europe
I would like to rent a car in Venice
or Triste and drive thru Slovenia, Austria, and into Prague and would like to leave the car there. No luck so far, no matter how creative I think I can get. How to avoid drop off fees and which companies even let you rent a car in Italy and drop off in Eastern Europe? Maybe I could drop off in Berlin? Thanks |
Why don't you pay someone in Prague to drive the car back to Venice for you?
|
Hi 3,
It's almost impossible to avoid international drop off fees. Berlin won't be any better. Have you considered taking the train to the closest spot in Austria or Germany to pick up the car, doing your drive, and returning the car in Austria or Berlin? ((I)) |
Thanks for the tips. I wonder how I could find a reliable person in Prague to drive the car back to Venice for me? I will try Austria, also. Thanks. 3bugs

I agree with Ira. It will probably be easier to train to a border town in Austria and pick up the car from there. If you do end up dropping it off in Germany it will be easier and probably cheaper, although you will still have to pay drop-off fees because you are dropping it off in a different country.

I rented a car from Portoroz,SLovenia, leaving early May. Now
how do I get to Portoroz from Venice or Trieste??? Thanks |
It's not "eastern europe" - and you'll be in Central europe by the way - it's picking up in one country and dropping in another.
There is a sizable fee for this between almost any 2 countries. |
Thanks, nytraveler, but actually
the companies I have tried will not let one rent in Italy and drop off in Eastern Europe ie Prague - they just do not allow it, even with a drop off fee. I was able to rent a car in Koper and drop off in Prague, so, at least that is pretty close to Venice or Trieste. |
