rental car from Moreton-in-Marsh

Hello, I just booked my ticket to London for mid May for $487 on Delta.. and I get 25,000 bonus miles, enough to visit my son in Maui. What a deal! Now, I want visit the Cotswolds but hate driving a rental in the UK. I will drive, but want to limit the driving to only between villages. If I train to Moreton-in-Marsh, can I rent a car from there. I seem to get the idea you can from my research but cannot get a specific name of rental agency. I also might be interested in hiring a driver and car. Anyone with information on this or better suggestions please advise. I have decided to stay in Chipping Campden I think. Any specific budget B&B recommendations appreciated. Thanks so much. I forgot to say I will have one day in London and four days in Cotswolds. I have been to London several times and to Bath.

There is a website you can go to and check car rentals in Cotswolds - www.upmystreet.com/ - when you get there type in Moreton-in-Marsh (remember the hyphens), then click 'Find my nearest' tab on top, scroll down to 'motors', then 'self drive' and you'll see listing. One we've never used but friends did was Bambury Car Rental in Moreton (01608 674747). We have used a company in Chipping Campden (Cutts of Campden 08386 840213). Also stayed at Honey Pot in CC (www.stratford-upon-avon.co.uk/honeypot.htm) - rented self-catering cottage but Mrs. Brook often rents by the night for 50 pounds (min. 3 night stay). She also does B&B and has an e-mail on her site where you can check rates. Perfectly located in CC and she is a wonderful lady. Other accom. in CC available at: www.stratford-upon-avon.co.uk/ccampden/ccacc.htm<BR>You may also consider taking train to Oxford (or there is an express bus there fr. Heathrow) or Stratford - more car hire places there. Avis in Oxford actually delivered car to where we were staying. Hope you have a great time. You should also do a search on this site re: driving car in UK for great hints.

Hello, thanks for the info. I will be arriving on Sun. morning at 7am to Gatwick. If I train directly from Gatwick to Moreton-in-Marsh, can I just taxi over to Chipping Campden for the day. Then, get a rental car early Monday morning directly from Cutts of Campden. I will be so jet lagged on Sunday, I will not want to drive much. Will shops and restaurants be open in Chipping on Sunday? Do you think I should call Cutts and make a definite car reservation since it will be mid May and not full high season. I am asking this question mainly because I checked car rentals and most of them are closed on Sunday. If Chipping Campden is mostly closed on Sunday, I will just stay in London for Sunday. I know I ask too many questions. Thanks so much.

We're going in July and also staying in Ch. Campden. The folks at Badger's Hall referred us to Tourgems for driver/car. Genny from Tourgems has been wonderful to work with in our communcations. We're definitely going that route. Here is her website: <BR>http://www.tourgems.com/<BR><BR>Have fun!

The Avis office in Oxford is open on Sunday from 9am - 1pm and is just opposite the train station. You can reserve with Avis, or probably save money & reserve with AutoEurope which will most likely tell you to get your car at Avis.Don't worry about the dreaded traffic in Oxford - turn right on the A420 at the station & you go directly to the bypass & miss the city.

You certainly don't ask too many questions. If you don't ask, you never find out what you need to know. If it were me, and I can never sleep on flights overseas, I'd either go into London or find a hotel near Gatwick (there are some that pick up/deliver to airport - probably doing a search on this site or asking question here would be good idea), have a good sleep and start off for Cotswolds next day when you are fresh. If you go into London, we've also done this, drop bags at hotel, they probably won't let you in that early in a.m., walk thru one of the parks (I think there is something in sun that helps you get over jet lag), wander past Buckingham Palace or wander thru British Museum - depends how long you can stay awake. I try the first day to stay up as long as I possibly can, then go to bed and get up at regular time in a.m. Remember to pick up some munchies, fruit, etc. because if you're like me you'll probably wake up around 11:30 p.m. hungry and there won't be anywhere for you to get some food. The suggestion about Autoeurope is a good one, they usually have the best rates. Although if you only want car for a few days you may compare rates with other agencies. As I recall, there was a small shop open in CC on Sunday and some restaurants - as well as the pubs. Getting all the way there really depends, I think, on whether you will be rested enough/alert enough to take trains/cabs, etc. to get to CC. You might also think about going to Oxford first day, walking about (it's a great place to walk about), sleep, then get car delivered to you in a.m. As I mentioned before we were very well treated by Avis, when we dropped the car off at the end of our holiday they even drove us to the bus station to catch bus to Heathrow.
