Rental Car - Frequest Flyer Miles Question

My husband and I rented a car last July/August in Germany. We booked the car through Gemutlichkeit who then booked the car through Auto Europe. The car we actually rented was through Avis.

I've been calling Avis for the past 7 months asking why we haven't received FF miles/points for our car rental. I just found out today that because we booked through a 3rd party(auto europe/gemutlichkeit) ... and Auto Europe uses vouchers to pay (avis), we could not earn FF miles with United. In order to earn miles we would have had to book the car rental ourselves.

Has anyone heard of this?

Thank you!

Yes, that makes sense.

yes, I've heard of that kind of thing with all kinds of purchases (hotels, cars, airline tickets, etc.) if you buy through a secondary source. YOu weren't really booking with Avis, actually, but with Autoeurope and that's who you paid. Autoeurope has the deal with Avis and paid them.

It must be like priceline. If you get a Marriott or Hilton, you can't use your card for points. Marriott did let me use it for parking. :-) ((b))

That is pretty typical. Sometimes you do earn miles/points when you book through a broker - but usually not . . . . .

oh, ok. Thanks for the responses. When I gave Gemutlichkeit my FF number he didn't tell me that I probably wouldn't get miles. He acted as if I would so I assumed I would. Maybe they didn't know either. Anway, it's a good thing to know. Thanks!!
