Rental car drop off fees

Does anyone know a car rental company that doesn't include large drop off fees?

We are renting for a week in Amsterdam and returning in Nice. I have checked with every conceivable rental company and I'm being quoted $300-700 for just the drop off fee?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you, INOR

I was not charged a "drop off" fee when we used Avis in Germany about a month ago. We were a couple of minutes late due to poor directions and I was charged for an extra day's rental, but I called and succeeded in getting the charge removed.

You almost always pay a drop off fee when you pick the car up in 1 country & drop it off in another.

If your next destination after Amsterdam is someplace in France, consider taking the train there & renting the car once you get to France.
