rent car / Munich
please, is the rent a car in the city of Munich cheaper than the airport?
How's the difference? I have a plan to take a car from Munich and will be delivered at the airport in Paris |
do a dry run with www.autoeurope.com. In one instance, specify an airport pickup and in the second one a city pickup. However, given the cost of a cross-border drop-off, the airport pickup fee is negligible.

I have found that you usually get a better choice of rental vehicles if you pick it up before 8 AM at the airport in Munich and it is a lot easier to FIND the airport in Munich than most of the car rental agencies in Munich proper-
And if you are using a car just to get from Munich to Paris you will be better off catching a train, especially in the winter!! Happy travels... ((b)) |
It may be better to call and actually talk to a customer service rep at AutoEurope, since they have better access to individual companies' drop off fees and can tell you what the best deals are. Drop off fees usually range from 250-500 Euros, so price this around , including train travel.

We tried to rent a car through AutoEurope a few years ago. We were to pick it up at the main train station in Munich.
Our family of four (including two kids) went to get the car, per our contract. BUT, they refused to let us take the car, because we were only carrying copies of our passports, not the originals. We inquired at the Hertz counter, which was ok without our original passports, but the 'walk-up' price was exorbitant. As a result, we took trains instead, to Salzburg and Fussen, which was actually a better idea for us. Just a heads' up. |
I don't recall having to show my passport when I rent a car, just my driver's license and credit card. Not that it would make much of a difference. I always carry my passport with me. If I were to check someone's identity, a copy of the identification would not be satisfactory.
