Renfe Seat Assignments - booked together but not seated together?

I booked train tickets this week for my May trip on the Renfe website. In each case I booked for 2 passengers on the same purchase for the same trains but the seats are not together. They are close but not next to each other. In two cases, we got window seats in different rows (ie. 7A and 8A). The seats both appear to be facing the same way so I don't think they face each other as I first suspected.

I'm not sure it really it matters since we will be spending the whole trip together it might be nice to talk with someone else for a couple of hours to practice our limited Spanish but it seems odd that it worked out this way.
Has anyone had similar experience?
Is there a way to contact Renfe to ask for changes if I have already printed tickets?

Thanks for any suggestions.

they may be facing each other. maybe the seats can be flipped . if they are first class they may have a table between them. first class on some trains has a single row on one side of the train, so you may not be sitting next to anyone.

send them an email and see if they can clear it up. otherwise, i would be happy to call if you give me all the car info, etc. and dates.

Typically the seats are assigned according to availability. If you are both in the same car then you can always ask the person sitting next to you if they would like to change seats.

lincasanova tells us: "first class on some trains has a single row on one side of the train, so you may not be sitting next to anyone."

I have ridden Clase Turista on AVE and the seating configuration was like that (i.e., two on the right, one on the left). As long as you are in the same Carriage you should be able to work things out.
