Renfe Schedule Release Policy?
I received a message from loco2 today informing me that "<i>Booking for your Ronda to Málaga María Zambrano journey is now open</i>".
When I check the schedule there is indeed one train that leaves Ronda at 16:31. However, if I check the same day of the week (a Monday), but about a month earlier then there are four trains leaving Ronda at various times throughout the day. The question is: if I wait longer will Renfe post additional trains on my day, or is it possible that the new schedule only has one train per day? Thanks. |
Well, I see three journeys per day. Two of which require a change of train - 'Con Transbordo'.
I have no idea how you come up with a departure at 1631 as I see 1650 as the direct journey all through August and September dates. What date are you looking for? And most importantly are you looking at the RENFE site? |
Sorry, I have posted my date: Monday, October 26.
Yes, I also checked the Renfe site and it shows only the one train. Will they add more? I'll wait a while before booking. BTW, we don't want to take the bus because my wife is highly prone to motion sickness due to inner ear injury, and I think that will be a windy road. |
I don't see any trains at that time, either, only 16:50 from Aug until beginning of December, on Mondays. (it's released through 12/7). that's the only direct all day, although there are several others. It doesn't change by month during those months. I used bahn.de, however, they get them when they are released.
I can't get anything on Renfe, just errors. |
Thanks for looking. Ah yes, one more clarification and perhaps an explanation:
The 16:31 requires a change at Antequera. So Renfe comes up blank if you enter Ronda-Malaga, it doesn't compute transfers. (Similar to Toledo-Cordoba, for example. I think Renfe will never show that since it requires a transfer in Madrid). But loco2.com does compute the transfer, so when the train to Antequera showed up, then they complete the trip to Malaga and sent me the alert. Now I am thinking Renfe is not done yet, and the direct Ronda-Malaga train will show up within a few days or weeks. We live in hope! |
I would be patient and wait a little more for RENFE to update their site. I am looking at purchasing tickets for Oct 14 (prior to your date) on a different leg and their trains for those are not yet all posted either. I simply check the RENFE site about 1 or 2 times a week. There is no doubt in my mind that they will appear soon.

Thanks kanadajin. That's what I'll do.
After Christina posted above I realized what had happened with loco2. So a cautionary lesson here: don't book with loco2 too far in advance because Renfe may not be done finalizing schedules. Same is probably true of other third party sites. |
You dont need to book for Ronda - Malaga train, last time I use it only 30 people on the train..just go to the ticket office and buy your ticket in Ronda.

Thanks alvamo. For this trip we have felt like pre-booking more than usual, but will keep that in mind, not worried about getting seats.
