Renfe on-line

I have not used RENFE on-line for many years. But when I entered the specifics I actually got the information I needed. Have they made the use of credit cards easier?

Our plans are all over the place and we simply want to know availability of trains.

They offer a four trip AVE ticket, has anyone used that and are there any weird limitations? Do they have a separate senior's discount?

For one leg of our trip we will be using Madrid as a base for about 8 days. We will also passing through twice for over night stays.

If anyone remembers, this is a real change from our original plans to drive across Northern Spain from Santiago to Donostia with a brief dip into Biarritz and Bayonne. We have purchased our flights and we arrive Madrid Sept 5 and leave Sept 29.

Right now, it is a week in Santiago, a week in Marrakesh, and 8 consecutive days in Madrid.

Places we are considering for a return train trip from Madrid are Toledo (with standard trains) and with the AVE Cuenca and Valencia.

Thank you again.

Hi. I've used Renfe.com online last summer 2015 and purchased successfully all my train tickets. I paid with paypal. I have a "verified" paypal account. The pdf was emailed to me and I printed it. It was an easy painless process.

Thank you FF. It used to be extremely frustrating.

Last summer I also had success with a verified paypal account but not with an American credit card. The latter was frustrating, it would fail at the last step after I had carefully entered in all the other data.

In addition I found it quite useful to set up a Renfe account. This made it easy to change trains later on when we tweaked our plans a bit. The refund due and/or additional charges for the transfer went right to the Paypal account. Never had a problem with that.

I have an account with Renfe that was set up years ago that I use occasionally, but when my card won't go through I use my Pay Pal account. Petrabax.com also works well (no foreign exchange fees).
