RENFE Discounts

Hi there.

I'm trying to book a train tip for Tuesday, May 24, and RENFE began selling tickets for that date 30 minutes ago. Unfortunately, no discounted rates are not available for my trains that day. Going back a month, RENFE has at least one discounted rate for every single day for the exact same route.

May 24 isn't a holiday, and I have a hard time believing that they've already sold out I've been checking since the moment that the tickets became available. Any idea what's up? Are the so-called "estrella" rates added after the normal fares?

Just noticed a typo. The last paragraph should read:

wait a few days and check again

Thank you, Danon. The more I think about it, this must be just a glitch in the system.

I'll keep checking back.

Jackpot,

'RENFE began selling tickets for that date 30 minutes ago' - says who? Something you may have read probably says 62 days or 60 days or something else.

I believe you are simply a day or two too early, but without further detail of the journey you are aiming for cannot help further.

Be patient

I know for a fact that the tickets had already gone on sale. I'd been checking my precise route for days, noticing that a new day's tickets were available once it became midnight in Spain. In this case, I am 100% confident that only the full fares were available immediately. How do I know? Because I was there refreshing the page as it became midnight. For whatever reason, RENFE did not show the discounted rates when tickets first went on sale.

I checked again this morning, however, and they were there. As lincasanova has observed, RENFE requires patience. Here's hoping that this thread helps out others in the future. Based on my experience, the discounted web fares are not always loaded immediately. Check back for a couple days before exploring other options!

And don't wait til 60 days in advance either as many times they load routes even earlier. Just depends..

repeat with me...

Well, there you go, and as I said, you were too early and only by hours in this instance.

Wombatt: I don't appreciate your condescending comments. Based on what I've seen, you have a reading problem, an attitude problem, or both. Thanks for nothing.

Everyone else: Thank you for your help.

Jackpot,

I see no reason to take out your frustrations on me, simply because you are unable to deal with a short answer, which was to the point and was correct.

Best wishes.

WomBatt,

Perhaps I'm the one with the reading problem. I don't mean to take my frustrations out on you, and I apologize for the tone of my last post. Take care!

I remember a good tip I read I think on one of Maribel's guides. She mentioned that one of the Renfe booking pages didn't offer the full range of discounted fares. The following page is the one she said to use (choose the English version when you get there!)

https://venta.renfe.com/vol/index.do

About a week ago I saved a good bit of money and all discounted fares were showing (62 days in advance of our travel date).

If that is the page you've already been using then I apologise.

Joe

Thank you, Joe!

As it turns out, the fares are showing up now. Nevertheless, I'm still bookmarking your link for future reference.

we ought to create just one post for all renfe idea links.
