Hi neighbour! Actually I agree with you that Ely would be a very nice place to live. It has the cathedral, the river where the Cambridge rowing crews practice, and a mainline railway station direct to Kings Cross in London. I wouldn't want to take that road through the fens to work every day, though, especially in winter when it is dark.

The best fish and chips are found on the coast. You need a real fish and chip shop, with deep fat fryers, steamed-up windows and a queue outside. There's a good one in Aldeburgh.
My late father had a season ticket for Ipswich Town Football team. He said that there was a surprisingly large group of American supporters, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. There are some very attractive villages and small towns in Suffolk. Lavenham is a gem and so are the small seaside towns like Aldeburgh and Southwold Aldeburgh has fishermen's huts where you can get fish straight from the boat. |
Hi Miss Prism,
I used to be one of those American Ipswich Town Football Club supporters, having a season's ticket when I lived in Aldeburgh. Once we had the team as guests in the RAF Bentwaters Officers Club, but that dates me because the base has been closed for some years now. I agree with you about the Aldeburgh fish & chips shop — fresh fish straight off the boats, and the queue used to run down the street. There are some good fish & chips shops in the Lakenheath area, including a couple in Mildenhall town. Newmarket is getting a branch of Harry Ramsden's in the Guineas Shopping Centre, but not sure it will be better than the independent chippy it is replacing. IMHO nothing beats a pub for informal meals, and there are lots of those too. One of my favourites is The Packhorse Inn in Moulton, just outside Newmarket. |
Harry Ramsdens (the first branch is just up from the road from me) is now an anodised, Maltese owned, disaster. Best avoided.

There you are. You could have been yelling abuse at the ref with my dad.
The OP should go at least once, just for the atmosphere. He might even get hooked. |

Here you are, the musical version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWR1ZQWugDs |
Where's the queue?

I was lucky enough to have a season's ticket for ITFC during the Bobby Robson era, and was at Wembley in 1978 when they won the FA Cup. Talk about queues! I waited in line at Portman Road for 8 hours to get my cup final ticket!

What a great opportunity. We have researched the area for a space a trip. It looks like a lovely area. Bury St Edmonds has a lot going on. Good luck to you. Glad Heimdall could help and now know we have people in the area.
