Reims- Quaint? (vs Loire Valley)

Hello,
Trying to identify a good day trip/one night stay in a high end chateaux. Looking for charming small towns ( I know Reims is quite large- how about nearby?) Taking Mom to Paris and want her to see the charming countryside of France- all in a day and a half! Thanks for any suggestions!

I stayed at the Château de Fère outside of Fère-en-Tardenois in May of 2001. It was a beautiful hotel about an hour east of Paris. Since it was the last night of my vacation it was a very easy drive to CDG for a noon departure the next day. The restaurant was excellent. Here is the web site: www.chateauxhotels.com/fere

Look around the chateauxhotels web site for more ideas. It's where I daydream when I'm thinking about going to France.

The little town has an old, wooden covered market. It wasn't running the day I was there, a Tuesday. I'm not sure what it's schedule is. Other than that I don't recall it being a particularly picturesque town, but I didn't spend much time there. Just outside of the town is an American Cemetery, interesting to see but somber. www.abmc.gov/oa.htm

Go to:
http://www.chateauxethotels.com/
Click on the French flag - it should still be in English. Look them over. For more Paris information go to www.anamericaninparis.com
