I agree about Martel. We were the only ones in there and the bartenders put on what amounted to a private champagne seminar for us. Not much else to see there though other than the tasting room because their main facility is also in Epernay.

The city of reims is nice too but there isn't much to see. One hour is enough>

I would say Reims has lots of neat stuff to see besides the Champagne tours - grand cathedral where kings of France were once crowned - a lively town center - the World War II room in a former school where Allied generals plotted the final assault on Berlin - the name plaques and maps, etc left as they were.

Reims has some really neat stuff besides bubbly tours.

Another vote for lunch at Les Crayeres - amazing!

I agree with Pal, I thought Reims had lots to see and do (and that includes the cafe culture)

My husband and I love Reims! I missed the WWII room last 3 times but it is on my list for next time. The cathedrals are very interesting as is the countryside for smaller champagne houses.

Letsgeaux, did't you get the tour of their cave there in Reims?

letsgeaux Aug 12th, 2014 05:57 PM

No, we did not tour Martel's cave in Reims. We may have been in a hurry to get to our scheduled tour of Veuve Cliquot. We went to Martel's tasting room because we happened to be walking in front of it. We are glad we did. It was enjoyable. Maybe next time we will spend more time there. We did get the tour of the caves at Veuve.

Anyone with experience with an organized day tour from. Paris? Debating that over doing it on our own in March.
