Well, here’s a question you probably haven’t had before.

My wife is on a high fiber diet and really relies on her breakfast cereal for a substantial portion of that fiber. She buys a breakfast cereal here called Fiber One. We’re trying to limit our luggage to (essentially) two carry on bags. I’m afraid that by the time she puts ten days worth of this cereal in her suitcase, there won’t be room for much else. So, I told her I would check with my Fodors friends to see this cereal (Fiber One - website: http://www.fiberone.com/product/cereals.aspx) or a similar product is available.

I told you this would be a question you’ve never had before !

Skip the cereal and take a bottle of fiber pills.

Believe it or not, I think she does both.

Oh, and more to the point, she claims to like the cereal! It tastes like a cross beween cardboard and sawdust to me. To each their own!

Don't know if they have FiberOne in europe - but they do have lots of high fiber cereals - they were popular in euroep when we were all stil eating Captain Crunch.. If your hotel has a buffet it should offer them. Contact the hotel and ask.

My husband needs to include high-fiber cereale in his diet and most Roman hotels serve a good bran cereal. However, if you discover when you arrive that yours isn't serving one your wife finds suitable, simply go to the nearest food store and ask for CEREALE (pronounced Cherry-ahl-ay). You will be shown many brands that are "RICCO IN FIBRE" -- got that? Including All-Bran. My husband's high fiber favorite (and mine too) are the MULINO BIANCO brands, some with dried fruits.

The cereal is not heavy. I routinely carry many bags of it up mountain staircases where I live.

So pack the fibre to get through the first day or so. Then go to the store if the hotel doesn't have the right stuff.

But I wouldn't count on every store carrying it. Perhaps your wife can pack some fiber bars to tide her over if need be.

Fiber One is sold in Italy. You may have to go to a larger supermarket to find it, but it is available in Italy.

In Rome, you could try the Standa supermarket in the basement of the Oviesse department store at Viale Trastevere 60.

I to use fiber one, and pack enough for two weeks in zip lock bags. It really won't take up too much room, and it quite light.
