Regional rail pass?

I will be in the Lauterbrunnen Valley next summer for 5 days. Is it cheaper to get a Regioanl Pass or a Swiss Saverpass for my wife and me? Will the regional pass allow me to get a discount on the boats, trains and cable cars in the area? How much will it cost? Thanks

My husband and I visit Switzerland often and we've found that the Swiss Saverpass is the best deal for the two of us. The pass is valid for unlimited travel on most rail, boat and postbus lines throughout Switzerland.

The Saverpass is for 2-5 people and is available for 4, 8, 15, 21 or 30 days of travel.

The pass also entitles the purchaser to discounts (usually 25%) on lines not covered by the pass such as: the cable car from Wengen-Mannlichen, the gondola from Mannlichen-Grund-Grindlewald, the cable car to the Schilthorn, the train to the Jungfrau, etc. The pass also covers most of the scenic trains in Switzerland including the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express. Most scenic trains require a reservation (subject to a reservation fee) and some are subject to a supplement.

Of course, what you need will depend on how much you plan to travel within the country.

I'd suggest the following site to help you determine what's best for you:
www.railpass.com.

Hope this helps!

I too found the Swiss saverpass to be the best for what we have planned. This was in part because I wanted the flexibility to travel out of the area if the weather is bad.

I don't know what dates you are going, but if you buy the Swiss saverpass before the end of the year, you get it at the 2002 rates, and it can be used up to six months from the date you buy it. I think the regional pass did not offer that feature.
