Refining my swiss holiday plan - pls critique my first draft

So after doing some research on this forum and with the help I got on my earlier post this week, my first cut itinerary is as below -

Please remember that we will have a car and do not wish to stay in towns that do not allow cars (since are children are small - 9 and 5 yrs)

First stop for 6 nights- Hotel Reudihus in Kandersteg (seems to have a large garden, large rooms and a good restaurant) - seems charming, recommended by Karen Brown and part of Swiss Historic Hotels.

Day trips to Wengen, Lautrebrunnen valley, Murren, Grindlewald etc

Second stop for 4 nights- Chateu d'Oex - Hotel Bon Accueil

Day trips to Montreux and surrounding area

Third Stop for 4 nights - Flueli Ranft - Hotel Paxmontana - this is close to Bern. Part of Historic Hotels of Europe. Since big cities are of limited interest, we thought againist staying in Bern itself.

Day trips to Bern, Thun area etc.

Fly out of Zurich

Hello DeepaSingapore :)

I am not one to critique people's choices of regions to stay as I do not know your particular situation.

You say you plan on 6 nights in Kandersteg with day trips to Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Valley, Murren, Grindelwald, etc. Seems like a lot of unnecessary driving each day.

Why not consider basing yourself in either Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald? They are car-friendly villages/towns, and the extra time spent in the car driving back and forth each day (coming and going from Kandersteg) could be spent up in the mountains instead.

Or lower elevations, perhaps Wilderswil or even Interlaken, but still closer to where your day trips will be?

Just a thought. ((i))

Thanks swisshiker. That's exactly the kind of response I was looking for. How long do you think the day trips from Kandersteg to the places I mentioned would take?

The reason I chose it was because of the hotel which looked very charming and had a big green pasture/garden outside. I will definitely research more into this. Grindlewald, I got the impression from some posts is a kind of a touristy place and Lautrebrunnen too rocky on all sides?

Now considering Hotel Siberhorn in Lautrebrunnen...

I agree with swisshiker, you should consider a town closer to the area you plan on visiting. We spent two weeks in Kandersteg two years ago and fell in love with the village. However we had RR passes, didn't mind the time traveling each day, and enjoyed the views from the train. I would not have wanted to do it by car on a daily basis.

Deepa, I think that Lauterbrunnen would be your best centro location. However, go to www.onelittleworld.com and find their Swiss trip report staying in Grindelwald.

Agreed - Lautrebrunnen it is for the BO!

What about the other two bases?
