Refining my Seville Itinerary
 

We are on a short trip to enjoy Seville and area. We decided to focus on Seville with options for day trips vs too much traveling. We are sure to be back sometime but are taking advantage of a winter break with kids school and some very low cost airfare from Atlanta.

I'm looking for favorite tours, restaurants, and any advice about day trips. In particular I am researching food tours. I think for sure Cordoba. I'm trying to decide if we'll want a second day trip or if we'll be happy wandering Seville. We are family of 5 with kids 17, 14, 10. They are savvy travelers. We like art, history, food and cafes and street life. We just returned from a busy 10 days in India and after lots of hard core touristing we're looking to be more mellow in Spain.

Day 1 Saturday - Arrive in Madrid at 9:30am
2pm - Train to Seville
Check in to Seville Apartment near Santa Cruz.

Day 2 Sunday - Whole Day in Seville
Maybe a tour?
Flamenco

Day 3- Monday - Seville in morning - Afternoon and Evening in Cordoba

Day 4 - Tuesday - Seville Day
Food tour?

Day 5 - Wednesday - Another Day trip?

Day 6 - Thursday - Morning Depart on Train to Madrid
Afternoon Tour of Madrid

Day 7- Friday 1pm departure

Just stick with Seville and Cordoba. Granada is too far for a day trip. Have a look at Carmona. That would be possible.

We took the Devour Seville food tour on our first full day, and found it quite helpful. It was actually quite easy to find horrible, overpriced food since we were mostly in the tourist areas so their recommendations helped a lot. We were there 5 days, with one overnight to Cordoba, and wish we'd had more days to wander.

I really would not do what you are planning on day 3, only spending part of a day in Cordoba. You are going to be in Seville long enough that you can at least devote the entire day to Cordoba, what with including the train and everything. It sounds like you were only going there to see one thing?

Your first day, you might consider the hopon/off bus for an overview. ALso, it will probably go to some areas you won't see otherwise, it's a fun excursion to sit on top. I think I got on it at Torre del Oro. https://sevilla.busturistico.com/itinerarios.html

Yes day 3 could be mostly Cordoba - I have heard lovely to be in Cordoba in the evening so thought to plan for that vs starting out too early.

We spent 4 nights in Seville, (3 full days), so I think you should only do one day trip from Seville. It looks like you really only have 4 full days in Seville because you will be arriving there late in the day on Day 1. Seville is beautiful, and there is lots to see and do there. Our favorite restaurant was La Azotea. We ate there twice. We didn't take any tours, but we did have a carriage ride around the city, which was fun and relaxing.

I agree with Christina about devoting the whole day to Cordoba on Day 3. Arrive in the morning, but stay as late as you can in the evening. The Roman Bridge and Mezquita are gorgeous at night when they are illuminated. We loved Cordoba (spent 2 nights there). The Mezquita is gorgeous, but there are other interesting things to see as well, such as the Alcazar, Palacio de Viana, walking across the Roman Bridge, and just wandering through Juderia. In Cordoba, we had dinner one night at La Regadera, one of the best meals of our trip. Also enjoyed a meal at Mercado Victoria. Your children might enjoy wandering around the market and selecting different foods they want to try. Sounds like they are adventurous!

You will love both cities!

I've read more about day trips to Ronda and I think the'll be too involved and take too much time away from Seville. That will also give us chance to devote a full day to Cordoba.

It really depends on what you want to see and experience, but I thought 2 full and extremely busy days insufficient for Cordoba, so I would encourage you to give serious consideration to going there in the morning rather than waiting until the afternoon.

And yes, Ronda is a LONG day trip from Sevilla -- 2.5 hours or so each way.

Sevilla and Cordoba are both lovely -- enjoy!
