Recs for an Agriturismo for 3 Nights in October

We've got 3 nights before we head to Rome. We will have a car and was thinking it would be nice to stay in the countryside and do day trips to various villages--Orvieto, Perugia, Montepulciano and others. Just want to wander and come back to a nice place in the countryside. Any recommendations for places you may have stayed? This will be in mid October. Thanks

We really enjoyed Terre di Nano last month.

Thanks, Judy, they're booked for our dates.

Just so you know, Perugia is really a city, and it is hard to see in a single day, especially if you are coming from southern Tuscany. Orvieto also happens to be a city, but is is much smaller and most people are satisfied to spend only a few hours there as a day trip.

I happen to really like the agriturismo experience in and of itself, especially when combined with a beautiful rural location and a good kitchen. Cultural sightseeing takes a back seat for me when I do a farm stay. But if there are very specific sights you want to see in the places you have named, you might do better to position yourself so that you don't face long hours driving to these places, most of which pretty much close down except for restaurants in the middle of the day.

If you really mean that you want to wander, then both Tuscany and Umbria are dense with small towns and villages, almost every single one of them charming so you can pick on the basis of scenery alone and then stick to a very small geographic area and find plenty of towns in wanderings to explore.

Yes, thanks. I want to decide what we want to do once there. There really is nothing specific we are looking to see, just some small towns and villages. Thus the choice of someplace out in the country which will make it easier to move about. I'm not set upon any particular area either, so just looking for a nice place in the country.

I've stayed at this place many times and will continue to return. It's located just outside of the lovely town of Pienza. Highly recommended-

Thanks, zoecat -- looks lovely, but booked. I'm amazed at how many places I have looked at that are booked.

I've never stayed at Agriturismo Camiano Piccolo, near Montefalco, but I would like to someday.

We loved our stay at http://www.santantonio.it over NYE last year. It's is just outside of montepulciano.

Thanks, sandralist - I will check it out.
jamikins -- ah, yes, I remember that TR you did. Were you outside Montepulciano? I looked at the website and some of the pats look like they dont have parking which we will need. Thanks

Yup just outside montepulciano at the country resort. I am not sure about parking at the places in town...but Nico is fantastic and will get back to you quickly if you emailed him the question.

You may want to try the Alta Rocca Wine Resort near Orvieto. It is a winery and spa. Near other vineyards and Orvieto. Has a waonderful restaurant and has amazing views. Here is a website. I visited there and had a wine pairing lunch at their restaurant - divine.

yestravel, you got me thinking about re-visiting Montefalco, and after reading up on some recent experiences of Agriturismo Camiano Piccolo, I had some minor reservations about it. Part of the appeal of the place is that it is one of those rare agriturismi where you can also walk to town (in this case, Montefalco). Yet if it is raining, the agriturismo also has a resaurant and serves dinners. If you are staying in Sagrantino wine country, it is great not to need to drive after dinner. However, they appear to have gotten popular with small food and wine tours, although I don't know how busy that scene is in October. (And perhaps they mainly do that for lunch, not dinner.) Anyway, thought I would share my further thinking.
