Recond Stores in Paris and London
 

While we intend to purchase various souvenirs from Paris and London, my fiancé hopes to bring home a variety of records. Just curious if anyone knows of any record stores (selling old and new records). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This has me stumped. Is there really such a thing as a "new record?" I could name a few stores in Paris that sell CDs and tapes, but records?

My curiosity is aroused also. Do you mean "unused" records maybe? I do remember seeing a number of places at the Cligincourt (sp?) flea market that sold records.

Thanks for the responses. To clarify, he is looking for shops/markets that sell "used" records and/or current music such as house, techno and dance records. We were planning on visiting the Clignancourt Flea Market (he's glad to hear that he maybe able to find some records). Thank you.

While in Paris last month, I went to FNAC (#74 Champs Elysees), which has an incredible selection of music, including 12-inch vinyl. There is also a Virgin Megastore nearby, at #104 Champs Elysees.

Minya:- I'm going to top an earlier thread on this subject which I contributed to with regard to CDs and Record stores in London. In case it should drop down again it's called "CD's in London" but if you search on my name you'll pretty soon find it.

With regard to Paris I've had a quick word with Mlle DoGood (fiancée & french) who informs me that other than FNAC and Virgin on the Champs and a couple of trip-hop and hip-hop places on the Left or out in the more "adventurous/dangerous" suburbs Paris is a bit of a desert for record stores. She says there's a better music & disc buying scene in Marseilles and Toulouse. My experience of shopping in Paris would be simillar - I tend to end up on the Champs. Having said that there is a pretty decent Jazz/blues place across the river from the Eiffel T. I'll see if I can dig up an address... in the meantime I'll bump that other thread for you.

Woody and Dr_DoGood...Thank you very much!!!! I think that we will be visiting all of the store that both of you had mentioned. However, I'm afraid that our honeymoon may turn into a mission of looking for records....we may have to pack an extra an extra suitcase just for his new records. He may actually purchase more in London and Paris then myself(..actually I don't think that will be possible). Thanks again for all the help.

It sounds like your fiance is serious about his quest for music, so here goes. Southeast of London in Essex is Adrians, which is my favorite independent music store in England. Lots of new, used, rarities and collectibles.

Records and tapes are at 36 High Street (CDs are next door at 38 High Street), Wickford, Essex, telephone 01268 73318. Mon-Thur 9-6, Fri 9-8, Sun 10-5.

If your fiance is a Beatles fan, take him to Abbey Road in London, and take a photo of him walking across the infamous crosswalk. He'll be talking about it for weeks.

There is a good 2nd hand record store on Great Malborough St in London (runs off Regent Street). Don't know what it's called but if you walk from Regent St towards Soho, it's on left hand side of street, past Marks and Spencer and next to the Coach & Horses pub where you can go for a pint after your shopping!

Try Berwick Street & Wardour Street in W1,just off Oxford Street

Further to the above just try Berwick Street W1 home to Selectadisc and Reckless Records (both on the left handside as you walk fromthe Oxford Street end)

There's a cool record store in Greenwich (zone 3) called Essential Music. It's located on 16 Greenwich Market, London, tel: 20 82934982.
