Recommended Venice walking tours?
I'll be in Venice for a few days early October an thought I'd like to take a walking tour -- either an overview tour of St Mark's/Rialto Bridge areas or some specialized tour elsewhere. I'll spend most of the time on my own but think one organized walking (or boat) tour would be fun.
I was looking at the Discovering Venice 'semi-private' small group tour http://www.discoveringvenice.com/en/...vate-tour.html They offer a lot of other 'private' tours that look interesting, but they are all for groups and since I'll be solo would be awfully pricey - having to pick up the whole tab. Any other recommended tour companies/guides? Thanks |

We went on this one a few years ago
http://www.getyourguide.co.uk/venice...g-tour-t33033/ It takes you into gardens you would have no idea were there. One has a fantastic view of the lagoon |
I have an old Cadogan Venice guidebook. There are 5 walking tours in it. Self-guided. I did them solo. They were great, I would thoroughly recommend them if you can locate a copy of the book.

you're right- if you pay a set fee and there's only you, ouch. We had a nice tour a couple years ago (of course I can't find the name) but our daughters were with us, so for four of us it made sense- or at least was easier to justify!
DH and I will be back in Oct and I wouldn't mind doing another tour, but yeah, don't think I'd want to pay the same rate for two of us. Will be watching this for ideas! I guess as you say joining a small group tour is the way to go. My Rick Steves Venice book has some walks, which I enjoy using, but having a guide is pretty nice. |
I wish I knew something about this, janis, as I would love to be helpful to you as you were when we went to Edinburgh last year. Had it not been for you (and a few others, but mostly you) we might not have taken a tour out into the Highlands and that would have been a real shame! Thank you!

We had a wonderful guide, Monica Bittante! She gave us a fabulous private tour. She is so knowledgeable and kind. Her email is carlobit at libero.it
She is licensed city guide in Venice. She really was wonderful! |
Nice idea, I hadn't thought about a walking tour for Venice. I won't get there until November, and I see that Inside Venice quits at the end of October, but Get Your Guide is still operating, and they have some tours that include a gondola ride, which otherwise is ridiculously expensive for a solo. Thanks.
