Recommended Muscial Concerts in Budapest

We will be in Budapest May 11 thru 15th 2008. Very interested in seeing a music concert. I have checked the Budapest Philarmonic and they will not be playing while we are there. Any recommendations?

You might try Vienna and Prague.

This isn't really what you're asking for, but when we went to Budapest, we had dinner in a restaurant--I think it was the Opera Cafe--which had singing waiters. Sort of. It was fun.

Budapest has a beautiful opera house. We saw Don Giovanni while we were there and it was great. Excellent performance, music and set.

One little thing though. Don Giovanni was sung in Italian and they had a silent radio, but the translation was in Hungarian. One of our friends didn't know the story so she was a little lost but the music carried her through.

go to www.jegymster.hu for the lists and online booking.

we also ate at belcanto next to the opera house. it was great.

but DO reserve in advance. google for their website.

We also enjoyed the opera and the tickets were very cheap. The programme had an English synopsis.

Lincasanova....can you verify the web site you provided? I can't seem to get to it.

Go to the Budapest Opera House to see anything that's on. It's worth it to see the beautiful building, and tickets are VERY reasonable. We had hoped to see an opera, but instead we saw a ballet and loved it. At such low prices we were able to get excellent seats (tickets were purchased the day of the performance at the Opera House box office). There is a subway stop right next to the opera house, and after the performance half of the audience followed us into the subway - most people were all dressed in their finest.
