Recommended hotel in Sorrento/Naples area

Hi
My family and I will be traveling in Italy for two weeks in August. There will be eight of us. We will be traveling in Northern Italy first week, and then in second week, southern Italy (Naples area, Calabria and Bari). What hotels would you recommend for 8 (two kids) in the Naples area. Would you suggest our stay in Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi coast???? Please help. Thank you!!!!!

Stay in Sorrento. It is easier because of the trains. You can also get easy transportation on ferries and hydrofoils. Check out the il nido in Sorrento. Not a 5 star hotel but clean and very friendly and wonderful rates!! My daughter and I have decided to stay there on our next trip. www.ilnido.it

You could rent some of the apartments in the grounds of the excellent Excelsior Vittoria hotel. There are four (I believe) apartments available, perhaps, budget permitting, all four could be rented, making it ideal for a large family group.

Hello, Rose: Sorrento would be a good spot to use as your home base for day trips. There are many very nice hotels - many of them mentioned on this (thanks to all, I have received great help and information here) and other sites. I am also traveling to Sorrento this summer with my family - 6 people in all. Have you considered renting a villa? After much research, we decided to rent a villa outside of Sorrento this time - more space than a hotel room and less expensive over all - we would have required 4 rooms for all of us. We are renting a vehicle so we don't have to stay right in town for transportation purposes. However, we do have to stay in a hotel for the last 2 nights of our vacation because villa rentals are Saturday to Saturday and we will not depart until Monday. For these 2 nights we selected triples(we figured we could squeeze in for just 2 nights) at the Bellevue Syrene. Have a fabulous trip!
