Recommendations for Salzburg restaurant

We will be spending a few days in the Salzburg area mid July. Would like recommendations for typical restaurants, beer gardens...reasonably priced in Salzburg and surrounding towns.

For good food at less than break the bank prices, we enjoyed the dining room at the Gasthotel zur goldenen Ente, At the Golden Duck. It is located on Goldgasse in the Old Town not far from Mozart's statue. We thought the food to be bood if not excellent. It is not fancy gourmet stuff but it is good, well prepared Austrian food.

If Robert Dürnle is still the man in charge, you will get good service and a good meal.
Mr. Dürnle is one of the best of his profession.
Another thumbs up for Herr Dürnle and the Goldenen Ente.

Still savor the memory of a meal for 16 there complete with FOUR enormous platters of Salzburger Knockerl for dessert (we ordered ahead; he used 48 eggs for the meringue that goes into it!)

Best wishes,

Rex
Hi, get up to Cafe-Restaurant Winkler, there is alift or you can walk up the hill. Great food, peach crepes to die for and an unrivalled view over the town.
Tomaselli's (Alte Markt 9) is a great place to sit and watch Salzburg parade past, good coffe and great cakes.
For beer gardens you must go to the Augustiner Brau (Augustinergasse 4-6), typical beer garden, loads of food excellent beer.
And last the Zum Fidelen Affen (Priesterhausgasse 8, just north of the river) and have the cream of garlic soup with black bread croutons!
There is also a Hotel Sacher for a slice of the famous Sacher Torte.

Have a great time

Hello,
YOu'll love Salzburg--friendly people, great views and great food.

Unfortunately, Cafe Winkler is now closed--a museum is going up on that awesome perch.

Consider the Stiegl Braurei just below the Hohensalzburg castle--outdoor and indoor seating, view over the altstadt, and hearty Austrian fare at reasonable prices---and a good beer selection.

Another cool place is the Stiftskeller St. Peter--sit in the outdoor area under the monchsberg cliffs.

The Blaue Gans hotel has a nice outdoor restaurant/beer garden on Karajanplatz, just across from the fountain/pool where the Archbishop's horses were bathed. Great food, good beer, very good service and enjoyable atmosphere. Prices are a bit higher than Stieglbraurie, but not out of line at all.

Check out the Salzburg Tourism website for a list of eating establishments, many of which have a brief description or link to the restaurant website:
http://www.salzburginfo.at/desk/frame_home_e.htm

We had a delightful lunch on the second floor outdoor terrace of the Cafe Glockenspiel, overlooking the square with the Mozart statue. There was a nice view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress above us, too. The goulash soup was delicious.
