Recommendations for really nice boutique hotel in Paris
 

My husband and I are planning a last minute trip to Paris to celebrate our 15th anniversary. DH has to go to London on business so we're going to meet up in Paris for 5 nights in early September. We have been to Paris many times and we've always stayed in many different hotels. I love finding new places!

Some of the hotels below we've liked a lot and although we could certainly go back, I was wondering if there's one II'm not thinking of or, perhaps even a new hotel?? IWe're in our 50's and are looking for a really nice boutique or, small hotel. A few of the hotels I've been considering are:

Francois 1ER
Le Walt
Hotel des Academies et de Arts--I know it gets good reviews but, not sure
Jay's --too pricey
Hotel St Vincent : not available over our dates
Relais Christine--not available over our dates


We're trying to keep it under $500 a night (and if less, all the better).
Here's a few of the places we've already stayed:

St James Paris ---nice but too far out of the way
Hotel Lancaster -- very nice hotel and overall it's very convenient but, not in love with the area
George V -- LOVED it but, cost prohibitive
Hotel D'Aubusson -- nice location but rooms aren't really that nice.
Hotel Montalembert -- Nice, would consider returning.
San Regis--had a horrible experience. They were doing so much construction---elevators not working and all we heard was drilling and what sounded like a jack hammer in the next room.
Hotel Keppler---nice hotel, nice rooms but, we didn't like the location.

Has anyone stayed at the Francois 1ER or Le Walt? I know the Francois 1ER is right around the corner from the George V. Location wise, I think we'd prefer Le Walt but when I look at the rooms online, I prefer the Francois 1ER. Any suggestions or other ideas?

I was going to suggest the Hotel Lancaster as my husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there but I see you've already stayed there.

We also love to discover a new ( or 3)hotels when we stay in Paris. This one was a particular favourite but I would not be surprised if you could not get a reservation! It's popular with a regular clientel - they may have a cancellation so do try!

The Walt is our current favorite in the 7th due to it's great location. Bus lines, metro and taxi stand are just a few feet away. Half a dozen fine restaurants are within two blocks; plus a bunch of cafes at the corner. Upper floors are the best; some rooms may provide a limited view of the Tour Eiffel. Lower floors can be a problem due to metro sound.

Two that we like in the 1st are Hotel Cambon (privately owned) and Lotti; front rooms on Castiglione are huge with high ceilings.

I wrote to Le Walt last night asking if they can confirm an Eiffel Tower view but, have not heard back from them. If they will, I would certainly grab it!

A lot of hotels I would have chosen are already booked but, the good thing about Paris is, there's a million hotels so I'm sure we'll find something!

All set! I got Relais Christine by calling them. They had a last minute cancellation over our dates so I'm thrilled.

We stayed at Hotel Duo in the Marais two years ago and liked it very much...totally renovated and re-designed, contemp/minmalist effect, quiet, on corner of Rue du Temple and Rue de la Verrerie, a block from Hotel de Ville....broad range of cafes and restaurants, from mom and pop to 3***..

you might try Ile St. Louis, Hotel Jeu d' Paume. For several years in the late 80's and early 90's we used the Hotel Lutece or the Deux Iles (its sister hotel)on the Ile, but a walk-through of the Jeu d'Paume at the time impressed us...their rates were the highest on the island, whereas the latter two were within our range...don't know about now.

Hotel Lotti near the Place Vendome is good. It is a busy commercial area, shopping, etc. Depends on whether you want that or prefer more residential area. Good luck, how fun.
