Recommendations for OUTDOOR Restaurants in Paris?
I will be in Paris from August 14 - 18. Let's pretend that it is NOT going to be 100 F during my time there. Assuming this, what are your favourite outdoor restaurants, or restaurants with outdoor areas? Streetside, balcony or roof terrace, all cuisines considered. Recs in 1,3,4,5, and 12 arr. especially welcomed. Name, address, telephone, website or other contact information is appreciated. Any closing dates known would also helpful (so many seem to be closed on weekends). Thanks in advance for your help.

A list of Paris restaurants that DIDN'T have outdoor areas would probably be shorter...
Patricia Wells book has a list of restaurants open in August, perhaps that would be the first place to check. |
I just got my e-newsletter from Gayot (http://www.gayot.com/), which has links to several "Best of" Paris restaraunt lists, including one for outdoor dining. Here are their picks:

According to Frommer's: one of the lovliest views to be had from an outdoor table is at the Restaurant du Palais-Royal, 43 rue Valois. It is within the buiding and you'll overlook a beautiful, peaceful garden while dining

Ah. The French are so French. Putting an outdoor table inside a building. That is class. |
HI
I recommend Cafe Marly after a Louvre visit. It's not that the food is so memorable, and it is overpriced, but you can get a snack or salad, soft drinks, pastry, cocktails, or tea. No point in sitting inside really, and last time I went to the restroom, the inside dining room was smoky. From the terrace, you have a dead-on view of the Pyramid, and you feel rather luxurious not standing in that line anymore. It's not as memorable as say, sitting at Florians in Piazza San Marco, but it is similar in that with the view, there's no doubt about where you are. |

We are looking for outdoor restaurants that are food worthy and don't break the bank? |

From my last trip notes...
Brasserie de L'Ile St Louis on Ile St Louis has a nice view of back side of Notre Dame, the dome of the Pantheon and people walking over to Ile St Louis from Ile de la Cite. Meal was: Faux Fillet au poivre avec frites allumette, very tasty 16E, Glass of beaujolais nouveau (Dubeouf), Cafe creme, ½ Badoit, 3 glaces – vanilla, coco, praline. Service was good..Total ~41E Cafe Hugo at Place des Vosges is in the arcades of the Place, with views of the area. Meal was: Bavette de veau, bottle of Vitel, glass of Chinon (Couley Dutheil) . Lots of veggies, and potatoes dauphinoise. Total 17.20E Both had good food and reasonable prices. |
