Recommendations for day trip tours from London
Hello everyone, my family( children 10 & 12) will be in London Dec.29 for one week and I would like to take a separate day tour to Bath, Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds Castle. I've heard the Evan Evans tours are good. Has anyone taken a day trip guided tour to these locations?

Thank you,

==Mike

Yes, I have. Last month we did an Oxford, Stratford, Warwick Castle trip with Evan Evans. The guide was quite good; the visits were not very long but did give a taste for whether you would like to return at your leisure. For a family, you might find them expensive.

If you wanted more flexibility, you could take the train to Oxford, Cambridge or Bath, and then either do a self-guided tour, or a walking tour organized by the tourist office, or the hop-on hop-off bus tour (not sure if Bath has this last, but the former 2 certainly do).

Or have you a tour in mind that does all these destinations (I can't think how, as they are in very different directions from London)?

I loved Oxford, greenwich is also very intersting if you like science. Bath was a disappointment. It cost approx. $50 to get there and is a 4 approx. hour commute from London but after you see the Baths and walk around the town I found it disappointing.

In 1998, we did the Evans Evans bus tour of Stonehenge, Salisbury & Bath. The trip was great, the tour guide knowledgable and helpful...but Bath was last on the itinerary, we liked it best but had the least amount of time to explore the town. Also we got stuck in traffic and returning to London took twice as long.

So. on our next trip to London, we took the train from Paddington Station directly to Bath. We did the hop on/hop off bus tour and explored the town...it's really beautiful and picturesque. Good Luck.
