Recommendations for Amsterdam hotels needed

I will be visiting Amsterdam for 3 nights this May. I would like a hotel with a bit of character in the range of $200-300/night, preferably closer to $200.

I will be traveling with my grandmother, so will need either an elevator or a first or second floor room with not too many stairs to climb.

Your suggestions would be very appreciated!

Thanks

Hi.

There are scores of possibilities so you may want to be a bit more specific in what you want.

Try channels.nl, hotels.nl or go to Google and type in Amsterdam hotels.

I would suggest the NH Doelen. It is a grand (if a bit faded) old hotel perfectly located within walking distance of many attractions. It has an elevator and it is probably right in your price range.

Also look at Banks Mansion which was COMPLETELY renovated in the past year.

Good luck.

Pilchard, to be more specific, I would like a small hotel, with local charm and character, in a good location. A waterview would be a plus, but a garden view would also be nice. Most important, though, is my grandmother's comfort. She is still very spry, and loves traveling, but I wouldn't like to see her constantly walking up and down lots of steep stairs.

Thanks again!

Ah; I see.

If you want small and charm in an upscale, quiet neighborhood near the Van Gogh and Rijks, you'll not do better than Hotel Fita (fita.nl).

The only drawback is that I don't believe there is an elevator (nor a lift, either).

Plichard,

What is the difference between an elevator and a lift?

To: hopscotch--

The difference between a "lift" and an "elevator" is the Atlantic Ocean.

You're welcome.

Pilchard,
That's what I thought, but I could have been mistaken.

Hotel Pulitzer says its city center and NH amsterdam centre says the same thing?
the pulitzer is 4 miles from the airport
the NH is 10 miles from the airport is amsterdam that big? I can reserve either for about $200. are they both really city center.

Is this the address of the Pulitzer (a Sheraton)?:
Prinsengracht 315-331, Amsterdam 1016
Bad reviews on Tripadvisor.com...

There are 2 NH Amsterdam Centres:
1. Stadhouderskade 7, Amsterdam 1054
(mostly good comments on Tripadvisor)

2. Spuistraat 288-292, Amsterdam 1012
(also good comments on Tripadvisor)

To answer your actual question, the distance quote must be in error; all of the above hotels are central and within a mile or so of each other; the airport is about a 20-minute taxi ride.
