Recommendation for nice lunch at Frankfurt Airport?

We'll have 4 hrs. between flights and be there at lunch time. Any recs. for a nice lunch place at the airport or nearby? Thanks.

Frankfurt airport can be a real zoo. I certainly wouldn't leave it with a 4 hour layover and then have to reenter security.

They've got serveral terminals -- don't know which one you will be at. I would just planning on grabbing a beer/wurst, and a good book. ((b))

Airports have awful food, as for "a place nearby", airports are never ever in the centre of a city.

Your best bet (as previously mentioned) is to eat at one of the airport restaurants and not have high expectations.

There is a Sheraton attached to the airport which has a couple of restaurants. Fine for a layover lunch. It is about a 5 minute walk from the arrival halls, via a skybridge.

"Europe's largest and most attractive McDonald's in Terminal 2 serves 24 hours classic fast food against the fascinating backdrop of the airfield."

from www.frankfurt-airport.com. Look at Airport Info, select Restaurants. It's under "International Culinary Delights & Flair". I kid you not.

Frankfurt Airport is pretty terrible, foodwise. We once had a brief layover there (20 minutes!) and were VERY hungry. There was NO place where you could just get a fast, self-service bite to eat. Yes, there was a MacDonalds down 2 flights of stairs - we decided to forget it. In the end we made it to our flight but our luggage didn't. I think Budman's advice is sound - better not leave the airport, it's a zoo. 4 hours may seem like a long time, but it really isn't.

ok, I was just in the frankfurt airport yesterday...terminal 2 doesn'thave much, but if you go to the main terminal-there are a number of decent places to eat, as well as some pretty decent shopping. Or if you love seeing grocery stores the way I do, you can hit the full service grocery store in the basement. There are also a number of interesting non-american "fast food" places in the basement (follow signs for trains). Four hours will be more than enough since you're not leaving the airport, just allow at least 1 hr to get back through security.

Having been through Flughafen Frankfurt a number of times, I would say there is no such thing as a "nice" lunch there. That makes it a typical airport in terms of food.
About the only thing I'll eat in ANY airport is a sandwich. They can't mess that up too much, can they?
And as far as leaving any major airport and returning shortly? I wouldn't risk it.

I agree that the Sheraton would probably be your best bet.

Well, there are a bunch of places - you can narrow your search here:

I would recommend Kaefer's Bistro, which belongs to a chain out of Munich, and which has very decent food (although I haven't tried the place at the airport in Frankfurt. At the airport in Munich, the food is good).

IMO if you couldn't find anything to eat at FRA, you just weren't looking...

The Steigenberger Avance Airport Hotel has a very nice restaurant attached to it. It is called "Untere Schweinstiege". Used to be a hunting lodge. You can get there by taking the (free) hotel shuttle. Takes about 10 minutes.
