Recommendation for French CD
 

Can anyone recommend a CD for learning french conversation. I checked some out of the library but none of them are real life conversation, it's all formal learning french. I just want simple every day conversation.

well, not sure what you mean about formal learnign French, as a beginning CD should just have some basic verbs and phrases that aren't going to be that different. But, a lot of folks like Pimsleur, of course, and it is sort of conversational. In fact, it isn't very good for education or learning French because it's not written and they don't explain grammar that much, so you never really understand what they are saying that well or the structure of the language. I don't care for it, myself (except as an adjunct to formal lessons, for pronunciaton and conversation practice). I don't know if I'd call it simple everyday conversation -- some of it is, some of it is not the kind of things you'll want to say, either (that was one of my beefs about it -- lots about jobs and job interviews, etc. -- and they repeat stuff ad nauseum).

That's the only one I'm that familiar with. A friend of mine liked Michel Thomas, and I think something called "Listen and Learn French". Have you tried those?

While I'm content with my limited French, I'm thinking of the Rosetta Stone set. Wonder if its true it is offered to the State Department? I've got to revisit italian.

Pimsleur is what I checked out of the library, it's really not what I have in mind as far as every day conversation. It's helpful and I'm listening to it but to go along with Pimsleur I'd like more of a conversation. Pimsleur is all short phrases and formal french.

Have to be a CD?
