Recommendation for a guide in Amsterdam

Could someone recommend a guide or a travel agent in Amsterdam?

We are planning on taking a cruise and would like to spend three nights after the cruise site seeing the area.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Angela

I recommend you do it yourself with the help of the Eyewitness Travel Guide Amsterdam.

Do it yourself....with the help of this informative site, and others, and the many books that are available. I did so, myself, this past spring, and had the most wonderful time, half of the fun of which was in the planning. Zero in on your needs - do you want to stay in a 4 star "American" style hotel, or a quaint little canal house? Learn about the neighborhoods and transportation. Contact the Dutch tourisn bureau. I got amazing advice from people on the Fodors.com site. There's also Rick Steve's....Enjoy!

Seriously, a very high proportion of Dutch people are more or less fluent in English, public transport is a doddle, and almost all the things you would probably want to do are within the central canal district - you could walk a lot of it if you wanted to. With a good guidebook/map you won't need a person as well.

Two suggestions: a canal trip if you can stand more water travel, and a trip on the circle tram 20 (both from the central station), either or both of which, with the map, will give you an overview before you decide what you want to see in more detail. You can get passes for the trams for one, two or three days:
