Rechargeable batteries
 

I will be in Paris next week and was planning on taking a battery charger for my camera. Does anyone know if using a converter will the charger "blow out". Or would it be better to puchase a charger over there. I originally was going to take my HP Camera Dock but am afraid that it may not work with a converter. Any suggestions appreciated.

All of my electronics have dual voltage chargers.

Check yours before you worry any more. If dual voltage, you just need the adaptor. I bought mine for a few bucks at the hardware store.

Our new Pentax camera came with a dual voltge charger and it says so in little itty bitty writing right on the charger cable that you plug in or whatever you call it.

What does it say on the charger itself?By law the range of inputs it will accept must be printed on it.If you no longer have the manual its probably available on line.

Your charger should say "Input AC 100 - 240V" or something close.

If it does, you need only a plug adapter.

If it doesn't say "220V" (or 240V) get a new charger. They are cheap enough.

My charger says 120V-60HZ. This is the only voltage I was able to find. Will it work with an adaptor?

Looks like it's a single volt charger, and won't work with just an adapter plug. Either get a new multivolt charger, as suggested above, or get a travel step-down transformer that will convert electricity from 240V to 120V. Read the fine print to insure the tranformer is suitable for electronic devices.

If it is a charger for standard AA or AAA batteries that can be used in a variety of products - as opposed to a brand or model specific charger - they sell a relatively inexpensive model at Radio Shack that is dual voltage and works without a convertor, just a plug adaptor.
