Recent Rome trip!

Hi,

Just got back from Rome last week & had a wonderful time. We rented an apartment in Via Cavour which is near the Termini. I thoroughly recommend this agency www.rentalinrome.com. which I found on the net. I was a bit uncertain about our apartment initially (& it's call Alex Penthouse - apparently penthouse is the Attic - we were on the 5th floor with lift) but it was lovely. I'll live in Rome if I have an apt like that. The agency are always very efficient in responding to my emails. I paid €885 for a wk for a 2 bedroom apt (for 4 of us) which I thought was very good & we did some cooking (not all the time) in the apt. The doorbell of our apt didn't work, so I had to ring the agency & the owner came out shortly. Lovely lady who didn't speak much English but we manage to communicate. We also got a free limo service (one way)to the airport which was a bonus.

Rome was absolutely lovely. We saw pretty much all the famous sights, walk for miles, weather was nice & hot in Sept (Good thing we had air condition which was well used), food was ok. We found a supermarket opposite Santa Maria Maggiore which we used a lot (only 5-10 mins from the apt). Crossing the road was quite an experience but it got to a point where it was quite fun!!! Had to remind myself several time when I got back to England that I can't cross the road like I do in Rome.

Unfortunately on the last day, my father has his wallet pickpocketed(he was wearing cargo trousers which a pocket by his leg, so they are not safe & can be easily picked!). This happen in Metro Barberini. This lovely Italian couple told my dad about it as he did not notice & brought us to the police station to giving their statement. They were so nice, helpful & took the time to help us (as it was a long walk to the police station in termini) which I didn't expect. So be very careful especially in public transport - the thiefs (2 girls of the age of 11 -14) were very quick! As it did happen, I was glad it happen on the last day & not the first as that would have completely ruin the holiday.

Despite being pick pocketed, we all had a lovely time & loved Rome. We did Rome very cheaply which I was really surprised with, so it is possible to go there on a budget.
If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer (if I can). Hope this help for anyone whose planning a trip.

Hi,

Glad you had a great time in Rome (apart from the pick pocket incident). I'll be going back for the fourth time next year.

I'm interested in hearing more about your apartment. I tried to find it on the web site but couldn't. You said it was in the Termini area but that's not one of the choices on the web site. I did look through some of the other areas for the Alex penthouse but didn't see it. Could you direct me to it?

I'm going next May and am concerned about the heat in a fifth-floor apartment. Was it hot for sleeping (I see the reference to A/C - did it work adequately?). And did you have 2 separate bedrooms or was there 1 bedroom with a sleeper sofa in the living room. Also, was there a terrace.

Thanks, Adrienne

Hi Adrienne,
If you go into the website, go into apartments in colosseum & it will be there(2nd one). It's call Alex Penthouse. It's a 2 separate bedroom & another sleeper sofa in the living room. The bathroom is ensuite with the master bedroom, so u do have to share which is a slight inconvience but it's ok. There is another toilet downstairs by the kitchen. There are 3 A/C, one in each bedroom & one in the living room, looks in good condition & very powerful. So heat isn't a problem as it gets cold very quickly. There is a terrace but it was lock, so we couldn't excess it. Hope this helps.

Jsltan, thanks for the report. Did you try walking back in the area around your apartment late at night? Is it a busy and well-populated area and does it feel safe?

WillTravel. If u can find a map of Rome, Via Cavour is on a main street & it is quite safe as my husband walks back from Metro Vittoria every night (after a drinking session with his family - we also went there for a wedding). Husband says it's very busy til about 12am, usually he gets in at 1-2am.

Hi - Thanks for your quick reply. I see the apartment now. I didn't check the Colosseum area apts since the Colosseum is so far from Termini I thought it couldn't be in that section. Looks good. Too bad the terrace was locked!
