Reasonably priced Munich Hotels

Can anyone recommend a nice, reasonably priced Munich hotel for 3 nights in mid-June for two adults? It does not need to be right downtown, but would like a nice area with access to transit. Also, we will have a car so parking is at least a consideration.

If you have a favorite, is there a restaurant or beer garden you like nearby? Thanks for your help.

Reasonable doesn't tell us much. What is your budget?

Holiday Inn Munich South might suit your purposes, again not knowing your budget realms makes it harder to suggest places.

It has on and off street parking, is a large hotel with nicely appointed rooms, great breakfast, WiFi (although it drops in an out) and is a 3min walk from the U-Bahn that takes 15mins to Marienplatz.

Otherwise, you can look in Schwabing area (a few chain as well as family-owned properties around there) which has cafes/restaurants/bars and a student vibe, but is a little out of the centre. There are plenty of budget hotels around the train station (Hauptbahnhof) but parking is a pain. There is a large public parking space near the station for around Euro10 per day, but most hotels around there do not have onsite parking for guests. The Ibis Muenchen City on Dachauerstr. in that area *might* have parking for guests, can't recall as it's been a while since I stayed there.

I recommend using www.hrs.com to find hotels that suit your budget, are in neighborhoods that you like and that also offer parking or any other amenity that is important to you, like A/C or pools, or restaurant on site, etc.

We had good luck using priceline to bid on a Munich hotel. We bid $62 (US) and got the **** Mariott Renaissance in Schwabing. We will be staying there for 3 nights mid-June. You can check www.biddingfortravel.com to see price trends on priceline.

We like Hotel Uhland in a quiet residential area near Oktoberfest site. It's 2 long blocks to metro and a long but do-able walk to Marienplatz. I'm not sure about on-site parking. It might be too late to book a room here for June. If they're booked, you might try priceline and see what turns up.

The Bayerischer Hof & Palais Montgelas is really reasonable for what you get.

I stayed at Hotel An Der Oper a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. It has a terrific location too!

Be sure to have a bier at the Englischer garden outside and also go the the Schneider Weiss Beer garden which is close to the hotel.

Sorry that my post was too general, but I appreciate your comments. We found Hotel Munchen Palace (Bohenhausen) on a luxurylink.com auction site.

We liked Hotel Uhland a lot. I believe it has free parking, also.
