Reasonable hotels in Rome and Florence

We are two couples traveling to Rome and Florence for the first time. We are looking for somewhere reasonable to stay. While we want something nice and clean, we don't anticipate spending too much time in the rooms or hotel. I was hoping to keep it below $200/night U.S. Is that realistic.

Thanks for any responses. I'm pretty impressed with this website and I've already learned some helpful information.

Hotel Casci in FLorence should be well within your budget. It's immaculate, in a great location and run by a delightful family.

We're heading to Rome, Florence and Venice in May. Afetr much research on this and many other boards, we are staying at Hotel Arenula in Rome, a no frills, very clean, great central location, good reviews on tripadvsor, breakfast included, $125 euros a night

In Florence we're going with the Relais Grand tour. We have the Diva suite for 130 euros a night. Great location, highly recommended http://www.florencegrandtour.com/home.htm

There are many choices for under $200 a night in both Rome and Florence and if you search this board by typing in "budget hotels rome" etc you will find more info than you can handle and more opinions than you probably want!

Good luck

plafield, we stayed in the Actor's Suite (Relais Grand Tour) in October. You're in for a treat!

Another vote for the Casci in Florence. Fantastic location, and the owners are so helpful. If we make it back there, we would definitely stay there again.
