REASONABLE HOTEL IN ROME
I'm looking for a hotel in Rome. Reasonable, and good location. I will be traveling in March of '03.

Hi Jill,
Two summers ago I stayed at Domus Nova Bethlem, run by nuns. It was great - a/c, t.v., huge private bathroom, close to termini and colosseum.
Let me know if you want more info!

http://www.suorebambinogesu.it/DNB/hotel.html

How about a price range? What's reasonable to some may not be to others.

Hi Jill,

I recommend Hotel Aberdeen, Via Firenze 48. Telephone 064823920 or email [email protected] to make a reservation. From memory, the price is around 130.00 euro for a double room with own bathroom. Have fun, March is a fantastic time to visit Rome.

Check out Hotel Navona www.hotelnavona.com. It is right off Piazza Navona, whithin walking distance of Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Ancient Rome including Colesseum, Campo di Fiori. It is sort of the best location I can think of. We love it. 110 euros/double.

By numerous favorable remarks here and on Fodors Rants'n'Raves, and a recent favorable mention on nytimes.com it seems like Hotel Smeraldo is a leader in the lower-priced category.

Of course, awareness of some place like this, and its good "value-to-cost ratio" will eventually drive up the "demand curve" - - so I hope that others with fresh news can verify again that it is not resting on its laurels or raising its prices to match increasing demand.

Best wishes,

Rex
Was in Rome very recently and stayed at Hotel San Carlo, right near the Spanish Steps. I think it was about 150 euro for a double. It was a great location and not as noisy as I had expected it to be.

I can second the recco for the Hotel Aberdeen; especially appealing to single women travellers as it is right next door (indeed torally surrounded by) the giant police station headquarters, very safe and quite quiet for a hotel right on the street.
