Reasonable hotel as base for market trips to Colmar, Strasbourg, etc

This is the second leg of my trip. I will be coming from Rothenburg by train and was looking for a reasonablly priced hotel , that we could walk to from the train (if possible) to use as a home base to check out the Christmas Markets in places like Colmar, Strasbourg, Freiburg, or Basel.

Thank you in advance.

Bob

What town/city are you looking to find this hotel in?

I would stay in Strasbourg. If you are going to Christmas markets it will be in December so gets dark very early, small towns have little to do after dark whereas Strasbourg is beautifully lit after dark. I got the Hotel Maison Rouge on booking.com for 70€ this summer (it's list price is twice that). Great hotel in central location, walking distance to train (half hour to Colmar).

Colmar (there are hotels close to the railway station) is just in the center of the area you plan to visit: trains to Strasbourg and Basle, bus to Freiburg

I will check out The Maison Rouge. I plan to visit mainly the Christmas markets. Wanting to avoid taxi's by staying in a hotel where I can walk to and from the train and then walk from the hotel to the markets.
