Reasonable, clean, quiet accomodations in Venice in February?
 

I'm planning a five day visit to Venice for the first time. All the hotels Alitalia is offering are near the train station, which I'm wondering about accessibility to vaparetto, noisiness and safety. It seems too far from the center of Venice. Any recommendations?

Victoria:<BR><BR>I wouldn't be concerned about noisiness, and certainly not about safety. There is a vaporetto stop at the train station. Besides, you could walk from the station to Piazza San Marco in fifteen or twenty minutes if you wished. Venice is quite compact and one of its many charms is the ease of getting lost. Stay anywhere in the city. You'll never forget it. Ciao e buon viaggio.

We went to the tourist office at the train station and they found us a hotel. We told them how many stars we wanted and they called around for us. We stayed at the Hotel Villa Rosa. (2*) Not too far from the train station but off the main drag. Clean, quiet but nothing fancy. We just walked over to the vaporetto and caught it to wherever we wanted to go. I always felt safe. The hotel also had breakfast included. P.S. A day pass on the Vaporetto is around $10 or you can buy individual tickets. That might be something to take into consideration too, on deciding where to stay. If money isn`t a big concern, stay closer to St. Marks Square.

Try the hotel Al Gambero. Very nice small hotel in a good location.

Try looking on allvenicehotels.com They seem to have some good deals - we got Hotel Marconi for 68 Euros a night.

Hi<BR>the train station area is not the most charming in Venice, but there are decent places to stay in that area.<BR>It's about a 30-35 minute walk to Piazza San Marco,at a determined pace.<BR>Vaporetto can take as long, or longer.<BR><BR>If you provide the names that Alitalia is offering, perhaps people here can comment on some of them.<BR><BR>I have a file on Venice; if you'd like to see it, email me.

I visited Venice for the first time in August and stayed at the Hotel Monaco, which was right on the Grand Canal and St. Marks Square. Excellent location, excellent service, and beautiful decor. Approx. 150 Euros per night. Have a wonderful time!
