Really stupid internet question.
Wow. What have I done. A while ago I was sort of resting my hands on the keyboard and got a message about holding down two keys too long, I don't even know which two they were, but I pressed cancel for the action it was to do. Now everything is messed up. When I click on a topic, I get a whole separate window that opens up with that thread only in it. And if I click on any space within the regular messages area, it illuminates in blue like I want to copy it, which I don't. How do I go back to my old standard settings?
|
OK. Now for the REALLY, REALLY stupid post. As soon as I posted that last comment, everything went back to normal. So please ignore this entire thread. I think I'll go have a drink now.
|
Patrick , just chalk it up to gremlins.
That's what I do when my computer has a mini tantrum. :-) |
Hey Patrick,
That was a "Really stupid internet question". :) |
Don't worry about it; we' ve all done something similar at one time or another on public forums;
no one remembers anything for very long so your secret is safe with us !!!1 |
Patrick: That sort of thing makes you absolutely crazy! My computer certainly has a mind of its own. I had an "open style" line across the bottom of the page in my word processing and worked for days trying to get it out. Finally found the solution yesterday and got rid of it. What a relief!
My real problem (several weeks now) is trying to post. Sometimes goes right through, other times I have to fight for 5-10 minutes. I honestly think it is because the forum is so busy and the site can't handle the traffic. I think we're loving it to death. |
I think you're talking about sticky keys. Hit the shift key fives times in rapid succession...at least for Windows XP that's the trigger.
And it has nothing to do with the Internet...just Windows. |
Patrick,
Would you please look and see if my Bookmarks are on your computer now? Gremlins stole mine two days ago and I still haven't found them. Sticky keys? Like when I have too much jam on my morning toast while emailing all my friends? :) |
Sounds like my first computer lesson: "Don't worry; you can't do anything to ruin the computer". Five minutes later: "What did you do?!!! |
Patrick, it's not just you; there are definitely gremlins in our computers. I was trying to copy a whole thread yesterday, couldn't make it work (nevermind it worked before) and place it in Word - no go! And, if I pressed anywhere into the thread it would highlight all. Makes me nuts, too. I finally deleted all my "cookies" which is really annoying as you have to then re-enter your saved passwords, etc. I'm hoping this solves some problems.
mdtravel: I'm going to try that "hit the shift key several times" in the future. Thx for the advice. |
Patrick - when in doubt, shut down and start over......for some unown reason turning the stupid things off once in awhile makes them happy...
|
Thanks for the support, everyone. Actually when everything was OK again, I wished -- oh how I wished I could have removed my post.
And I do realize from the start it wasn't an "internet" problem, but a "computer" problem. By the way seafox, I did shut down and restart and it still persisted. Why in the world it went back to normal after posting a reply, I'll never know. |
Patrick, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Been in Information Systems since before the PC first came out and they can still sneak weird stuff in on me. Given that your browser was ignoring html target code, I'm thinking whatever got switched was in the browser settings. |
There's a reason they call it a cursor.
|
Hi Scarlett,
I received your bookmarks in an email this morning. I thought it was spam and deleted it. Sorry. |
