really quiet hotel inVenice?

Would love, of course, great view and other pleasures and comforts, but quiet is very high priority. This will be for two nights, pre-cruise. Can spend around $400 per night. Maybe even a little more if the hotel is wonderful in all respects. (Would probably need to spend twice that amount for really wonderful?)
Many thanks for suggestions.

La Calcina is really quiet - it's a little oasis of civilisation - and actually under your budget. We stayed there 5 times before deciding to try an apartment, which we now prefer (our stays are 1 or 2 weeeks).

Pensione Accademia is also very quiet.....almost no foot traffic unless you are going to the hotel and on a small canal so not huge amounts of boat traffic. It has been a few years since our stay there but really enjoyed it. We had a corner room with big windows on the canal.

One of the nice things about Venice is the lack of cars and trucks and their noise and fumes. The Grand Canal has a far amount of boat traffic so you probably don't want to overlook that. And Italians are not necessarily quiet people.

We had a quiet corner room at the Hotel American in Dorsoduro, overlooking a side canal and the Grand Canal in the distance. It was nice and is about your budget.

We liked Hotel Bisanzio, which, as I recall, was up a little alley, quiet and just about 200-250 feet from Piazzo San Marco. Oddly, the hotel is, for marketing purposes, part of Best Western, but has no trappings whatsoever of any US hotel chain; it only has a tiny brass Best Western sign affixed to the front of the front desk counter. A feature we liked was that we could book with an 800 number at Best Western.

We have stayed several times at Hotel Giorgione, on the edge of the Canneregio that borders on San Marco. It's about a 15-minute walk to San Marco, but we love the neighborhoo, which is a bit more "local" in feel. It's one small street off a small piazza, with a couple of cafes, but I don't recall hearing any noise (people noise) from the piazza. It's a 4-star, and their breakfasts are served off a beautiful interior courtyard.

We've more recently stayed at Casa Santa Maria Formosa, which is closer to San Marco, but we did hear some noise (with our windows open) from the larger nearby piazza, so I won't suggest that hotel (though we liked it very much).

What's USD400 in €? €300 ? You can probably stay at a bit better (price - category wise) place than those recommended above. e.g. I have stayed at P.Accademia 4 times and once at la Calcina. I loved both but they cost (a lot) less than your budget. Also did you say when is your trip? Season is an important factor to determine the hotel costs. The same Venetian hotel room can cost in low season less than half of the price you pay in high season.

In June we stayed at Ca' San Giorgio (http://www.casangiorgio.com/) and found it to be pretty nice...and quiet. This hotel is between the train station and the Rialto Bridge and is near the grand canal.

This place is a bit below your budget but we found it to be the nicest hotel of our trip and the staff were great.

Can Ca' San Giorgio be reached by some sort of private transfer? We'll have a fair amount of luggage and can't handle it ourselves.
Thank you.

We stayed at Hotel Arlecchino, just off P.le Roma, even with the windows over a canal it was quiet - or maybe the jetlag kept us asleep?

The only thing I didn't like that the bed was a bit too hard for me.

Foscari Palace 4* is really great. Have stayed there 2 times, at their deluxe double and gonzaga suite on 2nd floor. Both facing the Grand Canal, a beautiful view. The suite has 3 windows on Grand Canal. I had no problem with noise but may not be as sensitive as you are. I can take a bit of noise for a better view. But surely double pained windows shut noise away. Being on Grand Canal, it has a entrance by water as well. Bathroom is large and modern. Its roof top terrace is another advantage enjoying the full 360-degree view of Venetian roofs and the Grand Canal.

I don't know about private transfer. You could contact the hotel and ask them directly. You could use a private water taxi. I'm assuming you're flying into Venice before the cruise you mention. When we used a private water taxi from the airport a few years back we had a LONG walk to get to the dock. I'm sure many here could speak with more knowledge on this.

Do you mean that from where one gets luggage in the airport, it's a long walk to the dock where private water taxi leaves from? That wouldn't do for us at all. (We're no longer that able, alas.) I suppose one could get a taxi to the water taxi??

> LONG walk to get to the dock ...

long may be a subjective word. long for some, but for many, a short 5 to max - 10 minutes walk. but sounds like the op belongs to the former. yes a cab can take you to the landing stage if you don't look quite able.

Using Google maps (if you want to look yourself, it's kind of fun, because you can see the water taxis using the satellite view), it appears to be a 350-meter walk from the front entrance of the Marco Polo airport to the water taxi dock. That's about .2 of a mile.

Yeah...I guess it wasn't THAT far. But we arrived very late and there was some construction that had caused them to reroute those walking to the water taxi. It just seemed like a long way.

If you can afford it then a hotel like kappa1 mentions would be ideal. Once you get to the private taxi they take you right to the door of your hotel. You'll also feel like royalty when you arrive!
