really bad paris brasserie

This place is called Le Dome on St Dominique( near Eiffle Tour) and our food was very terrible with service to match. It cost more than a 3-course meal we had a week later at Tabac de la Muette (16th) which was very delicious, very reasonably priced (a late 3:30 lunch for E13!) and came w/ very good service. The mousse au choc was excellent.

It is not surprising that you had a bad meal near the Eiffel Tower. Such places do not care about return business, because they will always have enough newcomers.

there seem to be places called "Le Dome" in every arrondisement. So how much did the meal cost you? Maybe it mainly caters to tourists if it's near the Eiffel Tower, sometimes those restaurants don't have to try that hard as they don't depend on repeat business. Of course, you can find a bad place to eat anywhere in Paris.

That particular Le Dome is dreadful. But, it's one of those places that you can tell will be awful if not before you sit down immediately thereafter - whereupon you can walk across the street to the wonderful Le Champs de Mars.

What djkbooks says is very correct. Le Dome is to be avoided..the one across the street is very acceptable. You just have to know these things!

If you find yourself close to the Eiffel tower, walk ten minutes and try Le Tournesol, http://bit.ly/d6Eblj (note, google maps has the address slightly wrong. It is on the corner of Avenue de lambelle and rue d'ankara. The food is not star quality, though it is good for what you pay plus always had friendly waiting staff.

There are multiple Domes in Paris. I've read that the one in Montparnasse (seafood) is good, and its sister restaurant Le Bistrot du Dome too. Are they a chain?

Le Dome in Montparnasse is a real pleasant place. quite memorable for a drink or something from the menu. Nice views of the streets outside. We prefer it to the nearby La Coupole which used to be a favorite before it changed.

Quelle horreur, no, they are not a "chain". It's just a common French restaurant name, there are other names like that where you can find about one in every arrondisement. La Rotonde is another very common name, despite the popular one in Montparnasse, there are lots of cafes with that name. There are Hotel de la Paix in about every one, also. There seem to be lots of Cafe de la Place, also.

There is the well-known Le Dome in Montparnasse and they have a smaller sister bistro out back. There are also restaurants with the name on the Right Bank, there is Le Dome du Marais, but it is no relation, as far as I know.

Gracejoan knows this part of the 7th better than any of us. There are a great many restaurants and cafes that offer excellent food at reasonable prices. Only a few godawful spots, Le Dome being one. Check out her prior posts.

Some of them I don't know by name, but know the location!! There are so many, many good restaurants in the area that it is a shame to go to a lousy one!! Be careful on rue Cler!

I'm gearing up for November/December now. Have different friends arriving here and there. I have, believe it or not, 3 dinner reservations at the new Spring during November. Taking different visiting friends and some good Paris friends who wait for me to show them some great restaurants!! We have our group all going to Violon d'Ingres for Thanksgiving and they will be serving our table a special menu..have no idea what, but do know that it will be great and it will be a fun evening!! Have some info on some other great new ones from only friends I know who if they tell me it is good, that I know that I will agree..about to make reservations with them, too.

I have been packing and re-packing and re-packing again..that is just me!!Beginning to watch the weather, too..

a bientot..

Joan
