Reading Suggestions for Vienna and Budapest
 

Hi, I leave for Vienna and Budapest in a few weeks. Do you have any good read suggestions?

I like historic fiction, plain history is okay as long as it's not dry as a bone.

We will be going to Melk one day, so I plan on reading Umberto Eco's <u>The Name of the Rose</U>.

Also, the theme on my trip focuses on the Art Nouveau//Jugendstil in Vienna (Klimt, Schiele, Otto Wagner et al) and Wiener Werkstätte. So if you have any suggestions on these would be fantastic (nothing too technical though, I'm just a amateur fan.)

Prague by Arthur Philips ( about Budapest and the xpat cmty) interesting read...will think about others...but that came to mind right away!

I must admit that I didn't read much before I went to Hungary & Vienna. Therefore, I was baffled by some of the historical connections until I researched after my trip. Here is one - I haven't read it but the time period (and Amazon comments) look good: Eclipse of the Crescent Moon by Geza Gardonyi. For Hungary & Vienna, the Turkish invasion period was very important. You will see statues & monuments & art that all relate to this time.
