Reach Pompei by car?
 

Hi<BR><BR>Is it possible to reach Ponpei by car? Is there safe parking there?<BR><BR>Danny

From where are you traveling? It's very easy to get to by car. Right off the autostrada. There is safe parking (private facilities that charge a small fee) across from the entrance road.

I am coming from Sorrento

When we visited Pompeii, we also drove from Sorrento. There are small private lots across from the entrance, and we had no problem with them at all (and as we had all of our luggage in the trunk, we were a little concerned). However, when we left Pompeii, we apparently had lost our parking receipt/ticket, and the guy at the lot (a different person than who'd been there in the morning) let us take our car anyway!

Last week, we parked in a camping lot right next to the site for 4 euros (2 hours). (It was right off the autostrada - just follow the signs to Pompeii.) Another 1.5 euro per hour after that. No problem arriving around noon, either. We spent 3 hours inside and found it fascinating!

Danny-- If you travel by car, look for signs to Pompeii Scavi ("ruins"), not<BR> Pompeii, or you will wind up in the city of Pompeii. As other posters have noted, ample parking is available w. no problems whatsoever.<BR> A guide book w. map is essential to understand Pompeii, or you can hire<BR> one of the many guides that are available when you get there. Since I had<BR> visited before, we chose the guide/map so we could set our own schedule, and<BR> it worked well. Had a nice pasta lunch at the snack bar just north of the Temple<BR> of Jupiter<BR>Enjoy!
