If you had three nights to spend in St. Paul de Vence or Crillon de Brave which city would you spend two nights in and which would you stay in for one night? Please give reason for your answer. Thanks!

These two are so different. In St'paul-de- my Hotel sits smack in the village but in Crillon you are way up high with incredible views that I feel I never want to leave. This feeling gets enforced because the hotel sits on terraces, main building on one, bistro on another as is the pool. They offer bikes so you can bike to the nearest village. The village of Crillon is only a handful of homes. But you will see more in St-Paul, like the Incredible Maeght foundation.

St.Paul de Vence is on the Cote d'Azur, while Crillon de Brave is in Provence - this is easily at minimum a 3-hr drive between the two.

Unless traveling by TGV which can get you to Nice for St. Paul, you'd need a car to get to Crillon.

If traveling by air it would make sense to arrive in NCE and depart MRS or vice versa. Or if Crillon is last stop, you have the option if with car to get to Avignon to take TGV back to Paris, that is unless you get the non-stop flight on Delta from NYC to NCE - I'm assuming that you're traveling from the States.

So there is more to consider then which place to visit and for how long.

The TGV doesn't actually run into Nice; it stops in Aix or Marseille, from which you have to switch to a local train. Darn! That part of the trip can be slow.

I would definitely prefer being in St.-Paul because there is so much to see close at hand: Vence (with the Matisse Chapel), the Fondation Maegt, the whole Mediterranean coast. Crillon-le-Brave is a bit isolated, and while there are charming villages to visit, I don't know that there's anything major unless you head up towards Vaison-la-Romaine. Mimi?

Jean, you're right, it's a place to settle in. The village at the foot of Crillon is Bedoin. You need that Michelin 245 map to see these smaller villages listed. Monday is market day there. You are close to Capentras also
