Re Hotel Notre du Dame and the bells.
If anyone has stayed here...I just read that the bells ring every hour...?...Is that a problem or are they very faint.
Just curious. Husband asked. I told him he's hard of hearing anyway. Thanks. |
What a beautiful experience, listening to bells all the time... enjoy it, see it like something very exotic that you have no chance to experience in the modern world.
My parents live 1/2 from a church, and when I visit them, i really enjoy the bells, specially in the early morning...a new day, the sun is out, the smell of fresh baked bread... |

There are sveral hotels in Paris with "Notre Dame" in the title, but "Notre du Dame" can't be one of them because it doesn't make sense. If you can provide the correct name of the hotel, I'm sure we can tell you from its location in relation to Notre Dame whether bell noise will be a problem. |
loisco was trying to book "Hotel de Notre Dame" in another thread for Oct 2005.

I've been trying to remember if I've ever heard the bells of Notre Dame ring, and I can only remember once, a long time ago, on or near Easter. I'm sure if the bells ring every hour I would have noticed it by now.
So I did a bit of sleuthing on google. According to www.discoverfrance.net, which is the only place I could find info in a quick search, it seems the bells ring "only on special occasions." Where did you read that they ring every hour? |
I'm fairly sure I heard the bells at Notre Dame ring at 6 PM on Sunday night, and there was no special holiday so far as I know.

We stayed at Hotel DE Notre Dame, Rue Maitre Albert, for 3 nights. Were there on a Sunday morning. We had a room on the ND side. I remember hearing bells sometimes when I was standing right at the window, but they were faint. I don't believe they came from ND. It is certainly not a sleeping issue at that hotel. |
I think it's best to get the info from someone who stayed there as above. It's not necessarily from Notre Dame, any hotel right near a church can have that problem, and I do remember being in one hotel in Paris near a church where that was an issue. They weren't that charming when you were trying to sleep, as I recall, it was an issue in them ringing early some mornings when I wasn't wanting to get up then. They don't ring in the middle of the night at any church, to my knowledge. IN short, I probably wouldn't let that affect my decision as I wouldn't say it ruined my hotel stay or anything.
There are a couple churches close to that hotel, St Julien le Pauvre and St Severin. |
I have no idea where I read that the bells ring every hour. I have been reading sooo much lately. In any case it's the hotel Hotel de Notre Dame. So if one of you heard the bells faintly there should be no problem.Thanks.
