Re Ansouis in Provence

My friend has a house in this town. I only have a small map in the Green Michelin and all I can tell is that it is in Montagne du Luberon. (Big France map on order)

Has anyone ever driven through this town or can someone tell me if this would fit in our itinerary for Provence (which I am now starting). My friend rents out this house so maybe we will use it too if it is convenient. Is this area one we should fit in our itinerary?

This will be our first trip to Provence.

It's a lovely little place, with a famous chateau owned by one family for a long time, (1160) We have stopped for luch there in the heart of the village and once had pastis at our friend's friend's house.

Cig...with no idea of our itinerary..would it serve as a base for us to get anywhere else????

Is it close to major sightseeing?

Thanks..

tt (what does that mean...topping?..but what does it really do)

topping means to bring it on top what some posters should do who post at night for the morning/afternoon crowd to see. No I would never base in Ansouis but visit unless you are styaying there with her.

If you only want to stay in 1 place, I would not base in Ansouis, like cigalchanta said. If you don't mind staying in 2 or more places, perhaps stay there (especially if it's free) & visit Aix, Cucuron, Cadenet, Pertuis, Silvacane, Manosque, Forcalquier, and especially Lourmarin from there. If it's lavender season while you are there, also visit the Valensole plane and Riez (great Sat AM market) This is about 3 days worth of touring. First timers to Provence on a short visit (1 week or less) would enjoy the Luberon (Gordes region), St Remy, & Vaison area attractions more.

It's a little more arid in this south side of the Luberon Mountains, than it is on the other side (Bonnieux, Roussillon, Gordes, etc). Less touristy, although. Climb up to the ruins of the castle in Cucuron for a fantastic view out over the village rooftops & the Church bell tower.

Well it might be free...we haven't discussed it yet..but yes we are first time visitors to Provence. Not sure of what we should see...I think I should plan it and see if her place fits easily.

Our car will be dropped at Avignon and we can take the train back to Paris but we should have a week or more in Provence. I have your itinerary Stu. Knowing me I will be sure and ask more.

I copied down the spots you just mentioned...thanks.
