RCI Sardinia

Hi -

We're planning a visit to Sardinia next summer and I'm wondering if anyone has stayed in an RCI property they can recommend.

We'd especially like to stay on the coast somewhere with a nice beach but also good for touring. We will have a car.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Bill,

We stayed at this lovely place in northern Sardinia near Palau (Capo d'Orso), booked through RCI:

Hotel Residence Porto Mannu
www.portomannu.it

The photos on the website really doesn't do justice to the setting, - the views around the bay were magnificent!

Great private beach and a good base for touring. I would go again tomorrow!

Let me know if I can be of more help ...

Steve

Hi
Went to Sardinia is September. Some beautiful places for water - totally agree with Capo Dorso - one of the three nicest complexes we saw. Porto Rotonda also has beautiful places as does Porto Cervo. But, and a big but, I thought Sardinia was a serious rip off, especially Porto Cervo (one place where I expected this). I stayed 3 nights on Maddalena Island to go somewhere cheaper and different, but found the prices there still excessive for what you got. Over 14 or so meals, I felt happy with 2 for value. I live in Vienna now, Munich last year and still have a flat in London and found the prices in Sardinia compared to London and Porto Cervo made London look cheap - tiny ham roll for ?4 in Porto Cervo, just outside the centre! I am afraid I now strongly recommend Greek Islands - not nearly as clean as Sardinia but far better value and choice of food, and a lot more character. Most of these places in the north of Sardinia are primarily built since the 60s so frankly I found it a bit tedious.

Try the beaches in the southern part of the island. They are more genuine, less commercialized, less expensive, and almost as gorgeous.
